Man mobbed over suspicion

JAKARTA (JP): A resident of Kemanggis in the Palmerah subdistrict, West Jakarta, with the help of 20 accomplices, mobbed a neighbor to death as they thought he had tried to deceive them on Thursday night, a police officer said on Friday.

Palmerah Police subprecinct detective chief First. Insp. Tri Hermanto said the 24-year-old victim, Abdul Manaf, had been severely beaten after failing to deliver the motorcycle that his neighbor Rusli had paid for.

"After Rusli paid Abdul Manaf Rp 4 million for the motorcycle on Thursday afternoon, they then went to the residence of Abdul's friend in Jatinegara (in East Jakarta) to pick up the motorcycle," Tri told reporters.

"However, the motorcycle was not there when they arrived at the house."

Abdul then took Rusli to a house in Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta, saying that the motorcycle was there.

Again, Abdul failed to show the motorcycle to Rusli.

Suspecting that Abdul had been trying to trick him, Rusli then brought 20 of his friends to Abdul's house in the evening and mobbed him.

Abdul died on Friday morning at the Kramatjati Police Hospital in East Jakarta after suffering from serious injuries which were inflicted to his entire body, especially to the head.

Police have been questioning Rusli and the other 20 men in relation to Abdul's death, Tri said. (jaw)
