JAKARTA — Cilincing Police Sector Chief, Kompol Bobi Subasri, has confirmed that the man who was crushed by a forklift at a container depot in the Marunda area of North Jakarta, identified by the initials GH (44), was not an employee of the local company. ‘The victim’s identity is known, and he was not an employee of that PT,’ he said when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. He also stressed that there were no reports of missing persons or allegations of wrongdoing by GH, other than entering the company’s premises.

According to initial statements, the forklift operator said he did not see the victim because he was in the vehicle’s blind spot, and the victim was subsequently crushed. ‘Yes, a blind spot,’ he confirmed.

The forklift operator has been detained and is being held for further examination. ‘For the forklift operator as well, we have detained him for negligence,’ he added.

For information, a workplace accident occurred at the container depot in the Marunda area, Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Thursday (26 February 2026) at around 16:00 WIB. A man was reported killed after being crushed by a forklift in the depot’s operating area.

The incident went viral on social media after a video of the incident was posted on the Instagram account @priok.id. In the recording, the panicked voice of the observer can be heard as the victim is seen under the heavy equipment.

Cilincing Police Sector Chief AKP Bobi Subri said the victim was confirmed not to be an employee of the container depot. To date, the identity and whereabouts of the victim at the scene are being investigated. ‘Not a depot employee. That is what we are looking into,’ Bobi said on Friday (27 February 2026).

According to Bobi, to date no depot employees have said they recognised the victim when questioned by police. He explained that the incident is believed to have occurred because the victim was in the forklift operator’s blind spot while the machinery was operating. ‘So that is the area in which the forklift operates. After a container passed there, it is possible that the forklift operator did not know the position of the victim there,’ he said.

‘Not yet (a suspect); the alleged perpetrator remains in detention at the police station. We are interviewing witnesses first, and we are assessing what happened at the scene to determine whether there was any intent or whether it was purely negligence on the part of the operator,’ he added.
