Jakarta, Indonesia — A man was killed after being struck by the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Express train at a level crossing in the Green Garden complex, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon, 11 March 2026.

In a viral video posted on Instagram account @jakbarviral, a man wearing grey clothing can be seen being thrown after being struck by the Airport Express train.

Initially, the railway crossing gate had closed and the alarm sounding as a warning to motorists. “Beware, two, two, two, there are two (trains passing),” the videographer shouted.

The first airport train passed safely from the airport direction towards Manggarai. However, after the first train passed, the victim immediately ran across the railway crossing, unaware that another train was coming from the opposite direction.

As a result, the victim was struck by the front of the locomotive travelling at high speed.

AKP Joko Siswanto, head of legal and traffic affairs at West Jakarta Metro Police, confirmed the fatal incident. “It is true that someone was struck by the airport train specifically at the Green Garden Kebon Jeruk level crossing at approximately 17:30 (5:30 PM),” said Joko when confirmed by Kompas.com on Wednesday evening.

The victim had been attempting to cross on foot from the Pesing direction towards the Green Garden complex. However, the victim was unaware that two trains were passing simultaneously at the Green Garden level crossing at the time of the incident.

“When the victim was crossing, he was struck by the Bandara Express train with locomotive number 902. The victim was not aware that two trains were passing and immediately ran to try to cross,” explained Joko.

As a result of the incident, the victim was thrown several hundred metres and sustained injuries across his entire body. He died at the scene.

Joko urged all residents and motorists to be cautious and always remain vigilant of their surroundings when passing through level crossings to avoid similar accidents.
