Jakarta, VIVA – Lukman Hakim (19), an operator at petrol station (SPBU) 3413901 in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, suspects that the man who went on a rampage and assaulted him was under the influence of alcohol.

“People around the area said he had been drinking. But I don’t know whether he had been drinking or taking something else,” Lukman said when interviewed at the Cipinang petrol station in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Monday.

According to Lukman, the perpetrator, suspected of being a member of the security apparatus, appeared unstable at the time of the incident. The suspicion arose because the man’s behaviour was deemed excessively emotional and abnormal from the very start of their interaction.

The vocational school graduate, who had only been working as a petrol station operator for six months, said the perpetrator had already displayed excessive emotion even before the situation escalated.

“From the beginning his behaviour was already visible — his emotions were abnormal. His body seemed weak, he got caught trying to open the sliding car door, and his phone fell,” Lukman said.

Nevertheless, he admitted he could not confirm whether the perpetrator was under the influence of alcohol or other substances. Reports circulating around the location suggested as much, but the victim himself could not directly verify the claims.

“I was shocked because the perpetrator was so aggressive, assaulting me and my colleagues, so I wasn’t really focused on the smell of his breath,” he said.

As an operator, Lukman stressed that he was merely following standard operating procedures and focusing on service. He had neither the authority nor the ability to assess a customer’s condition.

Beyond the assault, the man suspected of being a member of the security apparatus also pressured petrol station employees in the Cipinang area by claiming to be driving a general’s car and invoking the name of the Regional Police Chief.

“He said, ‘Do you know whose barcode this is? This is a General’s barcode. Don’t you know this is a General’s barcode?’ He said it repeatedly,” Lukman recounted, quoting the suspect.

According to Lukman, the suspicion that the man was a member of the security apparatus stemmed from his own claims, as he repeatedly cited senior police positions.

The remarks were made during a dispute over a barcode discrepancy for the purchase of Pertalite fuel.

Lukman said he was both shocked and frightened when the customer repeatedly invoked the identity of senior police officials.
