Man arrested for lover's death

JAKARTA (JP): Police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his lover in a hotel in Central Jakarta on Friday, a police officer says.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Abubakar Nataprawira said yesterday the suspect, identified only as Yul, said he "finished" his lover because she insisted they marry after having sexual intercourse.

The suspect and the victim met three days before the killing, Abubakar said. Police picked him up at his home in Manggarai, South Jakarta, on Monday.

The suspect, a 30-year-old employee of a private firm, told the police he killed his 24-year-old lover, Sudinar, by suffocating her with a wet towel. The killing reportedly took place at the Hotel Raden Saleh, Abubakar said.

According to Yul, he met Sudinar at the Kalibata Mall in South Jakarta. After a series of telephone conversations, they both agreed to meet on Friday.

They went to Ancol Dreamland and talked before deciding to proceed to the hotel at around 6:00 p.m. (bsr)
