Man arrested for killing prostitute

JAKARTA (JP): Police have arrested a man for last week's killing of a prostitute at an unauthorized red-light district in Cakung, East Jakarta.

Abdul Fatah, 22, was arrested yesterday evening at his house in Jatinegara.

During police questioning, Fatah confessed that he met Misri, alias Royanti, at 11 p.m. on Saturday at the prostitution complex, an officer said on Thursday.

After long bargaining, Royanti agreed to Rp 20,000 (US$9) for the night.

However, Royanti learned that her client was a clever businessman, who wanted to spend the money effectively.

When Fatah wanted to continue for a fourth time, at about 3 a.m., Royanti said she wanted to rest, said the officer, who asked not to be identified.

When the 28-year-old woman fell asleep, Fatah went to the back of the brothel and took a mortar, with which he hit Royanti on the head at least eight times.

Royanti died two days later, the officer said.

Police obtained the suspect's identification from another prostitute. (bsr)
