Man Admits Assaulting Petrol Station Staff to Obtain Subsidised Fuel

A man, identified only by his initials JMH, who assaulted three petrol station employees in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, deliberately used a fake vehicle registration plate to be able to purchase subsidised Pertalite fuel.

This was revealed by JMH during an interrogation by the Chief of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal, in a video uploaded to his Instagram account @alfiannurrizal.id.

“I asked him, ‘Why did you use a fake vehicle registration plate?’” Alfian said in the video, as quoted on Wednesday (25 February).

“To fill up with Pertalite, sir,” the perpetrator replied.

“Pertalite, to get it cheaper?” Alfian asked.

“Yes, sir,” the perpetrator replied.

In the video, the perpetrator also admitted to his mistake regarding the use of the fake vehicle registration plate on the vehicle he was driving.

In the same video, Alfian also asked about the reason for the assault. The perpetrator claimed that the assault occurred because the petrol station staff had pulled his shirt first.

Alfian then asked about the reason why the perpetrator had mentioned that the car he was driving was a ‘general’s’ vehicle.

“Why did you choose this ‘general’s’ car?” Alfian asked.

“So that it would be filled up, sir,” the perpetrator said.

“So, what do you mean by ‘general’? A police general or a military general?” Alfian asked again.

“I didn’t mention the institution, just ‘general’,” the perpetrator replied.

Previously, three petrol station employees in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, were allegedly victims of an assault by a man claiming to be an official on Sunday (22 February) at around 10 pm.

The incident began when a customer came to fill up with Pertalite. When the barcode was scanned, the vehicle registration number was registered in the system, but the type of car used did not match the data displayed.

According to standard operating procedures (SOP), the staff then refused to fill the Pertalite and offered an alternative solution. The customer was directed to fill up with Pertamax, which does not use the barcode system.

However, this refusal allegedly triggered the customer’s anger. An incident then occurred, leading to the alleged act of violence against the three petrol station employees.

The perpetrator, identified by his initials JMH, was eventually arrested by a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police in the Rawalumbu area, East Bekasi, on Tuesday (24 February).

The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, confirmed that the perpetrator was not an official, but a civilian who works as an entrepreneur.

“The perpetrator has been secured and it has been confirmed that he is not a member of the police force,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
