A video showed a man accidentally pressing an emergency or SOS button, causing panic among passengers on the Bogor–Jakarta electric commuter train, known as the Red Line. Staff went to the scene to deal with the incident.

In the video seen by detikcom, an SOS signal can be heard after the button is pressed. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, 22 October 2026, while the train was at Citayam Station.

“ We can confirm that the incident was caused by a passenger accidentally pressing the emergency button while looking for something to hold on to aboard Commuter Line train No. 1219, on the Bogor–Jakarta Kota route,” KAI Commuter public relations manager Leza Arlan said in a statement on Thursday (22 October 2026).

In response, railway security staff immediately went to the fifth carriage to inspect it. They confirmed that the SOS alarm did not indicate an emergency.

“When the train arrived at Jakarta Kota Station, rolling-stock maintenance staff followed up by switching off the alarm,” he said.

KAI Commuter said its onboard staff had followed emergency-response procedures after the SOS alarm was activated, responding promptly, verifying and checking the situation, and resetting the alarm.

The company also urged passengers to take care around service and emergency facilities and to use them only when needed.

“As the operator of this mode of transport, KAI Commuter also apologises for the incident, which may have caused other passengers on the train to panic,” he concluded.
