Ambon (ANTARA) — Maluku Regional Police Chief Inspector General Dadang Hartanto visited the victim of a violent incident involving Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel in Tual City and affirmed the National Police’s moral responsibility for the incident.

The visit took place at Prof. dr. J. A. Latumeten Hospital in Ambon, where victim Nasrim Karim Tawakal is receiving intensive care.

“I am here not merely as the head of the institution, but as an expression of moral responsibility. On behalf of myself and the National Police, I extend our deepest apologies to the family. We are profoundly grieved by this incident,” the police chief said in Ambon on Monday.

In the violent incident allegedly carried out by Brimob personnel, the victim’s sibling was reported to have died.

The police chief attended in person as a show of empathy and to affirm that the National Police does not turn a blind eye to legal violations, particularly when committed by its own members.

Dadang was accompanied by officials from the Maluku Regional Police’s Medical and Health Division, hospital management, a team of doctors and medical staff, both of the victim’s parents, and the family’s legal counsel.

In an emotional atmosphere, the police chief personally conveyed his apologies to the victim’s family.

The police chief confirmed that Brimob personnel from Yon C Pelopor of the Maluku Regional Police’s Mobile Brigade Unit, First Class Private Mesias Siahaya, would be processed professionally, transparently, and without discrimination.

Legal proceedings are underway and being coordinated intensively with the prosecution service to ensure the case is handled swiftly and in accordance with legal provisions.

“There is no compromise on legal violations. Whoever is guilty must be held accountable for their actions in accordance with prevailing regulations,” the police chief stated firmly.

The police chief declared that this incident serves as a serious evaluation for the Maluku Regional Police. Internal oversight, mental and character development of personnel, and disciplinary enforcement will be tightened to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Dadang also reminded all personnel to understand the limits of their authority, prioritise a humanistic approach, and uphold human rights in every execution of duty.

Beyond legal enforcement, victim recovery and family support were identified as priorities. The police chief ensured that channels of communication with the victim’s family would remain open so that all processes proceed transparently and accountably.

The visit served as a symbol of the state’s presence in guaranteeing justice and institutional accountability over the incident, as well as an effort to maintain public trust in the National Police.
