AMBON, KOMPAS.com – The Deputy Governor of Maluku, Abdullah Vanath, received a visit from the Japanese Consul General, Mr. Takonai, to explore opportunities for cooperation between the Maluku Provincial Government and the Japanese government.

The meeting took place in the Meeting Room on the 2nd Floor of the Maluku Governor’s Office on Wednesday (25/2/2026). Abdullah Vanath was accompanied by the Regional Secretary of Maluku Province, Sadali Ie, the Assistant for General Administration of the Regional Secretariat of Maluku Province, and several related officials.

During the meeting, Mr. Takonai expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome from the Maluku Provincial Government.

He outlined several potential areas of cooperation that could be developed, including the fisheries sector, management of mineral resources including the development of the Masela Block, the education sector, and Japanese grant programs in the form of the construction of schools, hospitals, ambulances, and other public facilities.

The Maluku Provincial Government hopes that the meeting will result in concrete steps and the best solutions to build a mutually beneficial partnership.

According to him, the education sector is one of the main focuses of cooperation, especially through collaboration with Pattimura University and other universities to improve the quality of human resources in Maluku.

The Maluku Provincial Government also encourages the strengthening of vocational education and vocational schools so that graduates from the region have opportunities to work in Japan, in line with the increasing demand for labor in the country.

“I, along with the Regional Secretary and related OPDs, are committed to taking advantage of this opportunity to create job opportunities for the people of Maluku,” he said.

He has asked the relevant departments to improve the quality of production to meet international standards.

He hopes that policy support and the strengthening of local production quality can optimise market opportunities and cooperation with Japan, which will have a positive impact on regional economic growth and the welfare of the people of Maluku.
