The ‘takjil war’ in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta, turns out not to be limited to Jakarta residents. Foreign visitors have also joined the takjil hunt at the venue. Nakiudin, a traveller from the neighbouring country of Malaysia, was seen taking part in the Benhil ‘takjil war’. The man from Selangor said he deliberately came to Benhil to join the ‘takjil war’. “Yes that’s right (joining the takjil war). Today I came specially from Malaysia to Indonesia to hunt takjil,” Nakiudin told Detikcom at the scene on Saturday (7 March 2026). He explained that before coming to Benhil, he had seen clips of the viral ‘takjil war’ on TikTok. Driven by curiosity, he flew to Indonesia to come and join the takjil war in Benhil. “Before coming here, I can tell you a bit: I’m interested in coming to the bazaar for hunting takjil in Bendungan Hilir, Benhil they say. That’s why I came here. I saw it on TikTok,” he said. From his ‘hunt’, Nakiudin bought es pisang hijau, a Makassar speciality, and bubur kampiun from West Sumatra. He explained that es pisang hijau is also available in Malaysia, but he was curious about the authentic taste of the green banana ice from its country of origin. “Today I bought green banana ice with bubur kampiun. Yes indeed, I was curious, so I came here. In Malaysia there is also green ice for sale, but we want to taste the original here,” he added.
