PLN Group again earned recognition for its performance on the global stage. Through its subsidiary PT PLN Nusantara Power Construction (PLN NPC), a unit of PLN Nusantara Power, two electrification work packages for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) in Malaysia were completed ahead of schedule. The two points are Feeder Station 01 in Tunjung, Kelantan, completed 15 days early. FS 09 in Jambu Rias, Pahang also recorded a significant acceleration by finishing about one month ahead of target.

Delivery of the project ahead of target was welcomed by Tenaga Switchgear (TSG) as Project Delivery Partner and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) as the network owner.

Head of the TNB Project Management Office, Mr Azreen Bin Othman, expressed appreciation for the successful completion of the connection from the Main Substation at Tunjung to FS 01 and FS 09, a crucial part of the ECRL electrification system.

“More ahead of the target set. This is a very proud achievement. We see PLN showing strong commitment and determination to ensure the project is completed quickly without compromising quality,” he said.

ECRL is a 665-kilometre dual-track electric railway linking Port Klang in Selangor to Kota Bharu in Kelantan. The project is entirely electric for passenger and freight operations and is projected to reduce carbon emissions by up to one million tonnes of CO2 per year when operational in 2027.

Azreen added that he hoped the performance would continue on forthcoming projects.

“We are very satisfied with the results and hope this extraordinary achievement can continue on future projects at the Seberang Jerteh and Gombak substations,” he added.

PLN’s success in this project also demonstrates Indonesia’s contribution to supporting low-carbon transport infrastructure in the Southeast Asia region.

CEO of PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, emphasised that this success is a tangible manifestation of PLN’s transformation and global expansion.

“This success is a strategic pillar for PLN Group to continue expanding its business processes at the international level. With the technical expertise and experience in electrification that we possess, we are confident we can complete projects to international standards while also bringing honour to the nation on the global stage,” he said.
