Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysia welcomes New Zealand’s steps to strengthen energy resilience amid global conflicts affecting the energy sector, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday (24/3).

Anwar conveyed this during a telephone conversation with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, as quoted in his statement in Kuala Lumpur.

“I welcome the proactive steps by the New Zealand government in strengthening energy security and accelerating the transition to renewable energy,” said Anwar.

He stated that he and Luxon exchanged views on developments in West Asia and their impact on global security and the economy.

He emphasised Malaysia’s position in condemning military attacks against Iran and rejecting unilateral actions that contravene international law.

“Malaysia continues to call for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, and the return of all parties to the negotiating table through diplomatic channels,” said Anwar.

The two leaders also discussed the impact of the conflict on New Zealand’s energy sector, including rising fuel prices and domestic economic pressures.

At the same time, both reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations within the framework of a strategic partnership.

This cooperation encompasses trade, investment, and energy sectors.

“We will continue to communicate closely in addressing current challenges for our mutual benefit,” said Anwar.
