Malaysia-Singapore Rail Link: Five-Minute Journey for Under 100,000 Rupiah
The first Malaysia-Singapore rail service will begin operating at the end of 2026. With this mode of transport, people and tourists from Malaysia can travel to Singapore in just five minutes, and vice versa. As reported by CNA on Thursday (26/2/2026), the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is designed to reduce congestion and improve connectivity between Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and Singapore. A total of eight RTS Link trains are being prepared to operate in December 2026, according to a joint press release from the Singapore and Malaysia Ministries of Transport via CNA. The first train will depart from each station at 6:00 AM, while the last train will depart at 12:00 AM every day, as quoted by Time Out. As with visiting another country, passengers on the Malaysia-Singapore high-speed train will still go through immigration checks. Approximately 100 AI-based electronic entry gates will be placed at the stations to speed up immigration checks in just seven seconds. After operating for six months, this rail route is being prepared to replace the KTM Shuttle Tebrau service on the Woodlands Checkpoint-JB Sentral route in June 2027. Passengers on the Malaysia-Singapore high-speed train will be charged a fare of 5-7 Singapore dollars, or approximately 66,000 to 92,000 rupiah, for a one-way trip. However, this fare has not yet been officially set until the final stage in the second half of 2026. The fare for the Malaysia-Singapore high-speed train is considered cheap compared to the cost of traveling by car between the two countries, which will cost 50 Singapore dollars, or approximately 662,000 rupiah per day, starting in January 2027.
