Malaysia Sets 1 Ramadan on Thursday 19 February 2026
The Malaysian government has declared that 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijriah falls on Thursday, 19 February 2026. The Keeper of the Rulers' Great Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, said Muslims in Malaysia would begin fasting the day after tomorrow.
As reported by the Bernama news agency on Tuesday (17/2/2026), Syed Danial stated that the date for the commencement of fasting for the main states across Malaysia was determined on the order of the Yang Dipertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, following approval by Their Majesties the Kings and Queens.
The announcement was broadcast live on Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) this evening.
On 12 February, the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers' Great Seal, through a statement, designated today — coinciding with 29 Sha'ban 1447 Hijriah — for the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon, in order to determine the start of fasting for Muslims in Malaysia.
The Ramadan crescent moon observation process this evening involved 29 locations across Malaysia, including Baitul Hilal Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Pontian, Johor; the Al-Khawarizmi Astronomy Complex at Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara in Melaka; the Kuala Lumpur Tower; and the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Crescent moon observations were also carried out at the Baitul Hilal Telok Kemang Complex in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, as well as Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor, Bukit Jugra in Banting, Kuala Langat, and the Selangor Observatory in Sabak Bernam, Selangor.
