Malaysia Prepares to Face the Impact of Prolonged Middle East Conflict
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysia’s National Security Council stated on Tuesday (24/3) that the country is preparing to face the economic and security impacts from the prolonged conflict in the Middle East. Those steps, they continued, will be implemented in the form of coordinated and comprehensive responses to handle cost increases and curb fuel smuggling, as well as potential domestic security threats. This was conveyed by the federal body under the Prime Minister’s Department responsible for coordinating national security policy, public order, and defence in a statement following a meeting chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. In addition to those measures, the body also stated that Malaysia will continue to work with its partners to promote diplomatic solutions to the ongoing conflict. Separately, Anwar stated that he had spoken with Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, as well as the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to convey Malaysia’s support and condolences for the losses suffered by both countries in the ongoing conflict. “I conveyed deep concern over the prolonged tensions and their implications for regional security and public welfare, while also extending condolences for the loss of lives and property damage due to retaliatory attacks,” said Anwar.
