Kuala Lumpur — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for the immediate reopening of the Al-Aqsa mosque gates to guarantee the rights of Palestinian Muslims to worship and celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

“Malaysia calls for the Al-Aqsa gates to be reopened as soon as possible. The continued closure of Al-Aqsa cannot be justified and constitutes a clear violation of international law,” said Anwar in a statement in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

He noted that whilst Muslims worldwide prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, Israeli occupation forces continue to keep the Al-Aqsa mosque gates closed.

Muslims are being denied their right to worship at Islam’s third holiest site during the final days of Ramadan and in preparation for Eid al-Fitr.

“Israel’s actions have no legitimate basis in law, morality, or the concept of genuine human dignity,” Anwar stressed.

The continued closure of the Al-Aqsa mosque gates, according to Anwar, reflects an escalating level of impunity over time.

Malaysia called on all parties with genuine influence over the matter to go beyond issuing statements and instead exert real pressure to ensure the mosque’s immediate reopening.

Anwar further noted that in these difficult circumstances, the faith, patience, and steadfastness of Palestinian Muslims are evident.

He stated that Malaysia will continue to speak out and take action to the best of its ability to champion the rights of Palestinian Muslims.
