Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysia and India have agreed to call for the immediate cessation of warfare in the Middle East, which involves Israel, the United States, and Iran, and impacts Western Asian countries.

This agreement arose during a dialogue conducted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi via telephone on Thursday.

“We agreed to call for the immediate cessation of hostilities and to rally efforts to uphold the voice of peace, diplomacy, and constructive dialogue,” said Anwar Ibrahim in his statement in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, following his discussion with Prime Minister Modi.

Anwar conveyed that his conversation with Modi focused on the latest developments in Western Asia, which are deteriorating further, especially during the month of Ramadan, which should be a time of peace and tranquillity.

“We also agreed that Malaysia and India must join hands to strengthen our collective voice in all international forums, including the United Nations (UN) and BRICS,” he stated.

He emphasised that ultimately, solid cooperation is becoming increasingly urgent amid the gloomy global economic situation, including its impact on food security.

“Insyaallah, Malaysia and India will continue to strengthen our shared commitment for world peace,” said Anwar.

On that occasion, Anwar also thanked Prime Minister Modi for his congratulations on the occasion of Hari Raya Idul Fitri to the people of Malaysia. Hari Raya Idul Fitri 1447 Hijriah in Malaysia will be celebrated on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
