MAKI Requests DPR to Form Working Committee to Investigate Transfer of Yaqut's House Arrest: It's Not That Easy, Ferguso
Jakarta – The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) has submitted a request to the DPR RI’s Commission III for the formation of a working committee to investigate the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the transfer of house arrest for Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in the alleged 2024 Hajj quota corruption case.
MAKI coordinator Boyamin Saiman, when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday, stated that his organisation’s corrective actions towards the KPK continue, even though the agency has transferred Yaqut Cholil back to the detention centre.
“In the kids’ terms, it’s not that easy, Ferguso,” Boyamin said.
According to him, although Gus Yaqut has been returned to the detention centre, the incident of the secretive house arrest transfer and various other irregularities have occurred, so a DPR working committee is still needed to comprehensively examine the alleged deviations and provide recommendations for improvements.
“The working committee is needed, especially to uncover allegations of intervention from parties outside the KPK, as also raised by Prof. Mahfud MD in his social media post,” he said.
He stated that MAKI had sent the letter requesting the formation of the Commission III DPR RI working committee that afternoon.
In addition, MAKI has also written to the KPK Supervisory Board regarding alleged ethical violations committed by KPK leaders in the transfer of Yaqut Cholil’s house arrest.
“Today, MAKI has sent a letter to Commission III DPR RI via the DPR RI website online channel. Yesterday (Wednesday), the report to the KPK Supervisory Board,” he said.
According to Boyamin, the DPR working committee is still needed as an external supervisor, as representatives of the people who can be considered the KPK’s superiors and can cut the budget if the anti-corruption agency performs poorly.
“This Commission III DPR working committee is to complement the reporting to the KPK Supervisory Board,” he said.
In the letter, the main points of MAKI’s request include that KPK leaders are alleged to have allowed the KPK to be intervened by external parties in carrying out the house arrest transfer for Yaqut Cholil and failed to report this intervention to the KPK Supervisory Board.
This allegation, he said, refers to the ethical jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court Honour Council (MKMK) decision to dismiss Anwar Usman from the position of Constitutional Court Chief Justice on the grounds of allowing and/or providing opportunities for external parties to intervene in the trial process of Case Number 90/PUU/2023.
