Maintaining Unity Amid Differences in Victory
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Friday (20/3/2026) marked a moment of difference among Indonesian Muslims in celebrating their victory. While some Muslim communities in Indonesia were still preparing suhoor for their last fast, others were preparing to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah or 2026. This year, differences in Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran celebrations resurfaced between the government and the Central Executive (PP) of Muhammadiyah. “It was agreed that 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah falls on Saturday, 21 March 2026,” said Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Nasaruddin during a press conference at the isbat session on Thursday (19/3/2026) evening. Meanwhile, for the Muhammadiyah community, this holy day is celebrated earlier, on Friday (20/3/2026). One side has already celebrated their victory, while others must endure hunger and thirst for one more day. Amid these differences, calls for the importance of tolerance resonate in celebrating victory together. Nasaruddin reminded of the importance of maintaining social stability to support the creation of a peaceful and prosperous Indonesia. “We urge all Indonesian Muslims to always maintain calm, security, order, and togetherness during this year’s Lebaran period,” said Nasaruddin during the isbat session press conference on Thursday (19/3/2026) evening. “Let us make Eid al-Fitr a momentum to strengthen the ummah, welcome Eid al-Silaturahmi, and maintain social stability as our contribution to building a peaceful and prosperous Indonesia,” he continued. Meanwhile, General Chairman of the Central Leadership (PP) Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, invited Muslims to make Eid al-Fitr the starting point for building solidarity, both at the national and global levels. Haedar highlighted the importance of building care within the ummah’s social network. This care is not only directed at the ummah domestically but also abroad. For example, for communities in Palestine and Iran currently affected by war.
