Mahrusun Hadiyono has been re-elected as Chair of the Indonesian Islamic Scholars Council (MUI) for Bali Province during the Regional Working Conference (Mukerda) I of MUI Bali Province 2026, with a tenure of 2025-2030, held in Denpasar on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The event was themed “Strengthening the Role of Islamic Scholars to Realise a Prosperous and Just Balinese Society.”

Upon his election, Mahrusun stated that previous programmes would be continued and new MUI initiatives would be implemented promptly. “This confirmation is important. It will be continued with working consultations, aimed at consolidating MUI programmes over this one-year period,” he said.

He revealed that MUI Bali would consolidate programmes that have been developed for implementation. There are numerous priority programmes, including strengthening kinship ties with leaders across Bali to reinforce brotherhood sentiment and promote equitable economic development for the community.

“This includes, amongst others, ensuring that interfaith harmony in Bali improves further, as this is the responsibility of MUI,” he explained.

Mahrusun also addressed the issue of takbiran celebrations on Eid al-Fitr coinciding with Nyepi Day. He stated that the Forum for Interfaith Harmony (FKUB) in Bali had granted permission for Balinese Muslims to visit the nearest mosque in their residential area to perform takbiran.

“Muslims are permitted to conduct takbiran on the night of Nyepi, with the condition that Muslims walk to the nearest mosque,” he clarified.

It was agreed that Muslim residents attending mosques for takbiran must walk, refrain from using sound-making devices, avoid loudspeakers, use only dim lighting, and limit activities until 21:00 Wita (Central Indonesian Time).

“I believe this can work, as it represents an agreement between Islamic and Hindu leaders. It should go smoothly,” he concluded.
