Mahindra to ship 35,000 vehicles to Indonesia this year
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indian automotive company Mahindra & Mahindra has reiterated that the company has secured an order for 35,000 light commercial vehicles from Indonesia and will ship the ordered vehicles this year. The Indian publication Economic Times on Tuesday (3 March) reported that Mahindra received the order from Indonesia’s state-owned company Agrinas Pangan Nusantara for the Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDKMP) project. On 26 February 2026, Indonesia’s Cooperative Minister Ferry Juliantono said that the plan to import 105,000 vehicles from India for the Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih Cooperative Project would be postponed pending a decision by President Prabowo Subianto. However, Mahindra said it had not received any notification from Indonesia about suspending the deliveries and has already received upfront payment to ship the vehicles. In the partnership, Mahindra will ship Scorpio Pik Up pickups produced at the Nashik plant in India to Indonesia. ‘Our pickups are designed to perform in challenging conditions while keeping operating costs as low as possible,’ said Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive Division. The government’s plan to import 105,000 cars from India to support the KDKMP has drawn controversy. The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) has said that importing cars from India could disrupt the local automotive industry and has recommended delaying imports. Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has urged the government to postpone the import of cars from India.
