Mahfud MD: Results of the Police Reform Team Recommendations to Be Established via Presidential Instruction or Decree

JAKARTA - The proposed recommendations from the Police Reform Acceleration Commission (KPRP), summarised in 10 books, are planned to be established through a presidential instruction (Inpres) or presidential decree (Keppres) to allow for phased implementation by the Indonesian National Police (Polri). KPRP member Mahfud MD said that such regulations are necessary because the recommendations are aimed at the long-term development of Polri. “Since this is for the long-term development of Polri going forward, an Inpres or Keppres will be issued stating that this is accepted and requesting Polri to implement it gradually,” said Mahfud at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026). “Then, the public can also read it in libraries or on the State Secretariat (Setneg) website and so on,” he added. Mahfud also reported on the results of the KPRP meeting with President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, the meeting went well and was marked by in-depth discussions. “So, there was a real discussion with the president, and an academic and scholarly atmosphere emerged. Because the President really mastered it, we had materials to discuss, and finally, it was decided together after the announcement,” he concluded.
