LSI Survey: 74.9 Percent of Respondents Willing to Join War to Defend the Country
JAKARTA - The majority of respondents in a Lembaga Survei Indonesia (LSI) survey stated they would be willing to go to war to defend Indonesia if a conflict arose with another country.
This survey on patriotic attitudes forms part of the broader “Evaluation and Public Commitment to Pancasila” study, as explained by LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan in Cikini, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (12/4/2026).
Some 26.4 percent of respondents said they were very willing, and 48.5 percent said they were willing.
“The majority (74.9 percent) stated they were willing/very willing to join the war to defend the Unitary Republic of Indonesia,” LSI reported.
In addition to those willing to fight for Indonesia, 17.4 percent were unwilling; 4.4 percent very unwilling; and 3.2 percent did not know or did not answer.
Some 46.9 percent of respondents were very worried, and 43.2 percent were worried.
“The majority (90.1 percent) feel worried about threats or attacks from other countries against the NKRI,” LSI reported.
The remainder, 7.6 percent, felt unconcerned; 1.0 percent not at all concerned; and 1.2 percent did not know or did not answer.
From the population, researchers selected 2,020 respondents randomly using multistage random sampling.
With that sample size, the survey’s margin of error is ±2.2 percent at a 95 percent confidence level, assuming simple random sampling.
Respondents were interviewed face-to-face by trained interviewers.
To maintain data quality, the team conducted random supervision of 20 percent of the sample through follow-up visits to respondents (spot checks).
The results found no significant errors in the interview process.
The survey ran from 4 March 2026 to 12 March 2026.
