LRT Manggarai-Dukuh Atas Corridor Postponed, Pramono: Public Transport Route Already Saturated
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has shelved plans for expanding the Jakarta LRT line. The Manggarai–Dukuh Atas corridor, previously included in development scenarios, is now under review following the density of existing public transport services already serving that route.
“From Manggarai to Dukuh Atas, there are already many KRL trains, so access is actually very easy,” Pramono said at City Hall, quoted on Friday (10/4).
Rather than forcing the construction of a new line in the busy corridor, the DKI Provincial Government is shifting its focus to developing the Jakarta LRT loop line connecting the eastern and northern areas.
The route is designed to loop from Velodrome to Kelapa Gading, Tanjung Priok, to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and Ancol in North Jakarta.
“For the Velodrome, Kelapa Gading loop, entering Tanjung Priok, JIS, to Ancol, it has already received approval. It’s just a matter of building it,” he emphasised.
He stressed that every mass transport development decision cannot be based solely on expansion desires, but must rely on real needs, economic value, and regional fiscal capacity.
He also mentioned receiving advice from PT Kereta Api Indonesia as an important consideration in the evaluation.
On the other hand, the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B project is still ongoing. This 6.4-kilometre line will connect five new stations, from Pemuda Rawamangun to Manggarai. Once completed, the total Jakarta LRT route will reach 12.2 kilometres with 11 active stations, linking from Pegangsaan Dua to Manggarai.
With the ongoing recalculation, the DKI Provincial Government is striving to ensure that every rupiah of transport investment truly impacts residents’ mobility.
“We are calculating the budget and everything. It will be decided soon,” Pramono concluded.
