Jakarta — Lembaga Persahabatan Ormas Islam (LPOI), headed by Said Aqil Siroj, has urged an end to all practices of colonialism and violence currently taking place in the international arena. He referred to interstate attacks that occurred in recent days. ‘We, the Asosiasi Muslim Indonesia, urge the global community to stop the war. End colonisation. Reject colonialism in all its faces, whether military, economic, or structural,’ Said said in an official press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to Said, practices of colonialism and warfare will cause widespread damage, ranging from the economy to loss of life. He noted that children, women and other vulnerable groups are often victims of colonialism and warfare. Therefore, Said and the LPOI leadership support President Prabowo Subianto’s initiative to appear on the international stage as a mediator for peace. Consequently, LPOI believes Indonesia must uphold five principles in order to defuse the conflict. First, Indonesia must be able to lead proactive and courageous peace diplomacy, by initiating high‑level dialogue, pushing for a permanent ceasefire, advocating humanitarian corridors without hindrance, and becoming a credible mediator in the resolution of international conflicts,’ Said said. ‘Second, Said continued, Indonesia must refuse to bow to pressure or domination by any power, by asserting Indonesia’s foreign policy sovereignty that is free and active. Third, LPOI asks the Indonesian government to uphold international law without double standards, by promoting accountability for human rights violations and international humanitarian law. ’Fourth, the government must strengthen national security in an integrated manner, by safeguarding stability and territorial sovereignty of the NKRI through strengthening defence, economic resilience, cyber security, and strategic and measured defence diplomacy,’ Said said. ‘Fifth, Indonesia must consolidate global South solidarity, by strengthening collaboration with developing countries to create a more democratic, inclusive, and equal global architecture,’ Said cited as the final point. By holding these five points, Said is confident Indonesia will be able to create world peace without being under the influence of foreign powers.
