Amid the dynamics of the global economy still influenced by geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in world energy prices, the government has emphasised that the national energy resilience is in a relatively safe and controlled position.

This was conveyed during a government working meeting chaired directly by the President and attended by several ministers related to the economic, energy, and strategic infrastructure sectors. The government also highlighted the diversification of energy supplies as the primary strategy to maintain national stability.

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that Indonesia has strengthened its energy resilience through various supply sources from several partner countries. One of the main focuses is enhancing LPG reserves and shifting energy import sources from various regions outside the Middle East.

“The difficult period for LPG has passed since the 4th. Alhamdulillah, now our LPG reserves capacity is above 10 days,” he said on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.

“Soon our ships will arrive and we won’t import solar. What we’re doing now is just petrol,” he added.

Furthermore, Bahlil emphasised that Indonesia is no longer entirely dependent on a single specific region for meeting its energy needs, particularly crude oil. The government has expanded import sources to various countries as part of the national energy supply diversification strategy.

“The total we take from the Strait of Hormuz for crude… we never import BBM (fuel oil). From the Middle East, it’s just crude at around 20 to 25 percent and we can already replace it from several countries like Angola, Africa, Nigeria, America, and some other countries. So insya Allah we’re clear, insya Allah safe,” he explained.

From a long-term policy perspective, the government also stressed the importance of energy transition and strengthening national strategic reserves to ensure the sustainability of energy supplies in the medium to long term. The State Secretary Minister, Prasetyo Hadi, conveyed that the President has directed a gradual reduction in dependence on fossil energy.

“What he (the President) means regarding one-year reserves is how we ensure our fuel supply is safe until the end of the year or for the next year from the supply side. In parallel, we hope to accelerate ensuring that we start shifting our dependence from fossil-based energy to new renewable energy.”
