Karangasem Police raided a warehouse engaged in the adulteration of 3 kg LPG gas cylinders. It was revealed that the warehouse had only been operating for 54 days, yet the perpetrators had earned profits exceeding Rp 281 million. In total, 10 perpetrators were arrested.

“The warehouse we raided, which served as the site for gas adulteration, had only been operating for 54 days. Based on interrogation results, the profits obtained reached more than Rp 281 million,” stated Karangasem Police Chief AKBP I Made Santika on Friday (8/5/2026).

The owner of the adulterated gas warehouse is I Putu Elly Akasia. He is the husband of a perpetrator in a similar case who had previously been secured by Bali Provincial Police. In fact, the location raided by Bali Provincial Police was not far from the site raided by Karangasem Police.

The modus operandi employed by the perpetrators involved purchasing large quantities of 3 kg LPG cylinders. The gas from these melons was then transferred or adulterated into larger LPG cylinders, such as 5.5 kg, 12 kg, and 50 kg sizes.

Based on the investigation results, during 54 days of operation, the perpetrators had caused state losses of Rp 714 million. The case’s uncovering stemmed from community reports of suspicious activities at a warehouse in Banjar Desa, Subagan Village, Karangasem. Following this, police conducted an investigation and successfully uncovered the criminal act of adulteration.

“In this case, we managed to secure 10 perpetrators with varying roles, from the business owner, person in charge, adulterators, drivers, to gas porters,” said Santika.

In addition to securing the perpetrators, police also seized 1,788 gas cylinders, ranging from 3 kg to 50 kg sizes. Furthermore, equipment used for adulteration, digital scales, and trucks employed to transport the cylinders to various regions, even outside Bali, were confiscated.

For the act of gas adulteration, the suspects are charged under Article 55 of Law No. 22 of 2001 on Oil and Natural Gas, as amended by the Job Creation Law. All suspects face a maximum penalty of six years’ imprisonment and fines up to Rp 60 billion.

Santika also warned irresponsible individuals against attempting similar acts in the future. He assured and committed to eradicating and strictly enforcing actions against such deeds or practices.

“I urge the public not to hesitate to report to Karangasem Police if they encounter or witness suspicious activities in their respective areas,” Santika emphasised.
