LPDP Jakarta Opens 100 Quota Slots, Pramono: Betawi Children Have Opportunity to Study Abroad
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the international scholarship programme known as LPDP Jakarta will provide special quotas for high-achieving Betawi children. He believes that this group needs opportunities to pursue the highest possible education, including abroad. Pramono mentioned that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is finalising the implementation scheme for the scholarship programme together with the LPDP of the Ministry of Finance. “As a city and as regulated by law, we must certainly provide opportunities for Betawi children to study abroad,” said Pramono at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (11/4/2026). Pramono said that he has held several meetings with the central LPDP regarding the LPDP programme. “This week, Balai Kota officials are also formulating how this LPDP can be implemented, and there is already a way forward. Jakarta cannot do it alone,” he explained. Previously, Pramono mentioned that the international-scale scholarship programme, similar to the national LPDP, will begin in 2027. Through this programme, Jakarta residents will have the opportunity to pursue undergraduate to doctoral education with full funding from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. “I hope that next year we can start the LPDP Jakarta,” said Pramono when met at the DKI Jakarta Education Office Building, Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, on Thursday (26/2/2026). He emphasised that the plan to establish the scholarship programme has been discussed with LPDP officials. Pramono, accompanied by the Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, received the CEO of LPDP, Dwi Larso, to discuss the technical details of the programme. According to him, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government had previously planned to launch the programme earlier. However, that plan was delayed following a reduction in revenue-sharing funds for Jakarta. “Because of that cut, we then looked for ways to ensure Jakarta can have its own LPDP, determined and regulated by Jakarta itself. Alhamdulillah, there is already a way forward,” he said. Although he has not detailed the overall recipient quota, Pramono targets at least 100 people to be sent in the first year of the programme’s implementation. He emphasised that scholarship opportunities are open not only to fresh graduates but also to the public who wish to continue their education at any age. “I just can’t specify the number of quotas yet. But I have told Mrs Nana (Nahdiana, Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office), ‘Mrs Nana, if possible next year, at least we can send 100 people for LPDP’,” said Pramono.
