Long Weekend Holiday: Traffic Corps Chief Reminds Drivers Not to Push Themselves When Fatigued
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) Polri, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, has reminded the public to remain disciplined in traffic during the extended holiday and joint leave for the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ.
Agus asked drivers not to force themselves to drive when their bodies are fatigued or drowsy, as this risks triggering traffic accidents.
“It is better to stop briefly to rest than to push oneself in a fatigued state. Arriving quickly is never more important than returning home safely. Roads should be spaces of safety, not spaces of loss,” said Agus in his statement on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
Toll roads, national roads, tourist areas, and access routes to hometowns are predicted to experience an increase in vehicle volume starting Thursday.
Agus assured that all units of the Traffic Corps across 34 Regional Police Commands are on standby 24 hours a day to maintain security and smooth traffic flow.
Personnel are placed at several strategic points such as toll roads, main intersections, tourist areas, terminals, ports, and locations prone to congestion and accidents.
“Our personnel are on standby 24 hours. We are present not only to regulate vehicle flow,” he said.
According to Agus, traffic conditions during long holidays are usually more dynamic due to the increased volume of vehicles.
Dense vehicle flow, long queues at rest areas, and fatigued drivers are cited as factors that often trigger disruptions to road safety.
Therefore, he asked the public to prepare their journeys meticulously, from ensuring vehicle conditions to keeping their physical condition in top shape.
