Long queues at Gilimanuk Port reach 30 kilometres during Nyepi exodus
Jembrana, Bali — Queues of vehicles travelling to Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana Regency, Bali reached 30 kilometres on Sunday as residents departed for the Nyepi holiday.
“The peak of the exodus from Bali is indeed today. The benchmark for those departing Bali is not Eid al-Fitr but the Nyepi holiday,” said Jembrana Police Chief Senior Commissioner Kadek Citra Dewi Suparwati on Sunday.
Regarding the queues extending to Negara City, approximately 30 kilometres from the port, she stated that authorities had coordinated across sectors to address the situation. At Gilimanuk Port, entry gates were being regulated to provide space for four-wheeled vehicles, buses and trucks.
“The port entry gates were initially filled only with motorcycles. We have now adjusted this so that other types of vehicles can access the space,” she said.
Additionally, authorities coordinated with police units along the exodus route to Jembrana to conduct inspections of large cargo vehicles. She appealed to departing residents to maintain order in queues to help officers manage congestion.
“Vehicles from the Denpasar direction should not block the entire road as vehicles from Gilimanuk are still approaching,” she said.
All local police stations were instructed to monitor traffic conditions in their respective areas to ensure orderly traffic flow. Field observations at approximately 09.15 Wita showed queues of predominantly cars, buses and trucks of various sizes extending to Negara City Terminal in Kaliakah Village, whilst motorcyclists filtered along the roadside toward the port.
