Long-distance Train Occupancy Reaches 58 Per Cent Ahead of Lebaran
Jakarta — During the 2026 Lebaran Transport period spanning 11 March to 1 April 2026, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operating Region 1 Jakarta has recorded an increase in long-distance train ticket sales.
As of 8 March 2026, 625,231 tickets have been sold or reserved from a total of 1,076,196 seats provided for departures from Gambir Station and Pasar Senen Station.
“The current seat occupancy rate stands at 58 per cent, with 423,965 seats still available for the public wishing to travel during the Lebaran exodus and return periods,” stated KAI Operating Region 1 Jakarta’s Public Relations Manager, Franoto Wibowo, in an official statement on Sunday (8 March 2026).
The dates with the highest ticket sales include 18 March with 49,057 tickets, followed by 19 March with 48,291 tickets, 17 March with 47,986 tickets, and 16 March with 47,217 tickets.
“On these popular dates, the remaining seats are very limited and approaching capacity. For instance, on 18 March only 2,435 seats remain available, on 20 March 2,708 seats, and on 19 March 2,998 seats,” Franoto explained.
Based on service class, train seat availability remains fairly adequate. For executive class, 268,587 seats remain available out of a total capacity of 510,527 seats. For commercial economy class, 144,227 seats remain available out of 446,965 total capacity. For PSO (Public Service Obligation) economy class, 38,142 seats out of 118,704 total capacity remain available for booking.
Based on travel period, for departures between 11–20 March, 81,797 seats remain available, whilst 22,429 seats are available for 21–22 March. For departures from 23 March to 1 April, 364,730 tickets remain available.
Through the Mudik Promotion programme, customers can obtain discounts of up to 30 per cent for ticket purchases on 9 March 2026 for departures between 9–20 March 2026, subject to applicable terms and conditions.
