Lokop-Pining Route in Aceh Cut Off Due to Heavy Rain: Government's Emergency Measures
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is accelerating the handling of disrupted transportation access on the Lokop–Pining route in Aceh Province, which has been cut off due to river abrasion and landslides triggered by high rainfall.
The government is prioritising emergency measures to reopen access for communities and logistics routes.
Damage has been reported at two points along the Pining River course, in the Tamiang Sub-DAS, in Pasir Putih Village, Pining District, Gayo Lues Regency.
As an initial step, the Ministry of PU through the Sumatera I River Basin Agency (BWS) is conducting intensive coordination with the Aceh Provincial Government (Pemprov) and local governments regarding the handling of river flows causing abrasion on the road body.
Additionally, heavy equipment is being mobilised to the handling location.
Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo emphasised that restoring community access is the government’s top priority in addressing the emergency situation.
“The most important thing for us is to keep access open. Entry routes for community needs and economic activities must not be cut off. Communities must not face difficulties due to hindered distribution,” said Dody on Sunday (3/5/2026).
The Ministry of PU states that the Lokop–Pining route plays an important role in community activities, from logistics distribution, access to healthcare services, education, to daily economic activities of residents.
Therefore, all relevant parties continue to coordinate so that emergency access can be restored as soon as possible.
After the emergency situation is handled, the government will prepare follow-up handling steps in an integrated manner according to field technical needs and the authority of each agency.
The Ministry of PU also assures that it will continue to monitor the progress of the handling and provide technical support so that community mobility can return to normal as quickly as possible.
