Logistics Sector Required to Implement Halal Certification This Year
The Halal Product Assurance Organising Body (BPJPH) mandates that the logistics sector implement comprehensive halal certification by 2026. BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan stated that the halal concept is not limited to food and beverage products but encompasses the entire process chain, including distribution and logistics. “Halal in the logistics sector is an important part of halal product assurance. This is not just about the final product, but also how storage, packaging, and distribution processes are carried out in accordance with halal principles,” Haikal said in his statement in Jakarta on Monday, 13 April 2026, as reported by Antara. He also emphasised that halal can serve as a strategic barrier to entry to protect domestic micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the influx of foreign products that do not meet halal standards. Furthermore, he stressed that the logistics sector no longer has room to delay the implementation of halal certification. This, he continued, aligns with national policy where halal certification obligations will apply comprehensively in 2026. “For the logistics industry, there is no bargaining anymore. 2026 becomes the mandatory point for businesses to obtain halal certification,” he said. Haikal also reminded of the importance of controlling critical points in the logistics process. He highlighted that the separation between halal and non-halal products must be carried out strictly to maintain the integrity of product halal status. “Products like halal and non-halal meat must be separated in their storage. This becomes a standard that must be met by all logistics business actors,” Haikal stated.
