Jakarta (ANTARA) - Logistics company Lion Parcel is reminding people of the importance of understanding cross-border shipping regulations ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah to ensure international packages arrive safely, on time, and without documentation hurdles.

Lion Parcel’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kenny Kwanto, noted that Eid is synonymous with family togetherness, yet some people celebrate it apart due to relatives working away or living overseas.

“Even when separated by distance, the warmth of Eid can still be shared in simple ways, one of which is sending packages abroad to family or friends living there,” Kenny said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He explained that international shipping services are often used by the public to express longing for loved ones during festive occasions.

Malaysia is one of the top destinations for packages sent from Indonesia. The company observes that people utilise courier services to send packages to family or friends abroad, including during Eid.

“Typically, these packages contain personal items to various Indonesian products and special foods that people want to share with their loved ones,” he said.

In light of this, to ensure packages arrive safely and on time, Kenny emphasised several key considerations before sending them overseas.

As guidance for the public before dispatching international packages, first, pay attention to regulations on permissible items. Before sending packages abroad, it is crucial to understand the rules on goods allowed into the destination country.

He stated that each country has different provisions regarding the types of items that can be shipped; examples of items that may be held up include herbs, liquid cosmetics, and medicines without supporting documents.

“By understanding these rules from the outset, the risk of packages being detained can be minimised, allowing shipments to proceed smoothly,” Kenny explained.

Each country has varying documentation requirements, but generally, necessary documents include the shipping receipt, goods declaration form, recipient’s identification, and details on the package contents and value.

Complete documentation is essential to facilitate customs inspections and smooth the shipping process. To learn about the General Shipping Terms and Conditions (SKUP) for each destination country.

Third, send packages early. This can help ensure deliveries arrive before the holiday, as international shipments usually take longer due to transit processes and customs checks in the destination country.

“For overseas shipments, the public can utilise Lion Parcel’s INTERPACK service, which currently reaches more than 50 countries worldwide, including Malaysia and Singapore,” Kenny clarified.

Fourth, ensure items are securely packaged. Proper packaging is vital because packages travel long distances. Using sturdy packaging like thick cardboard boxes and additional protectors can help keep items safe during transit.

The fifth point to consider is shipping insurance. Opting for shipping insurance as extra protection is advisable when sending packages abroad.

“We strongly recommend that the public use shipping insurance to provide peace of mind, especially if the package has a certain value or is important to the recipient,” he explained.

Even when separated by distance, added Kenny, simple gestures like sending Eid packages can be a way to continue sharing joy with family overseas.

“Through international shipping services like INTERPACK from Lion Parcel, the public can send various needs to their loved ones in various countries,” he said.
