The Serang City Government is proposing the arrangement of its northern coastal areas to become a new economic growth centre in Banten Province. They are proposing the development of several northern coastal areas, the construction of a sea wall, and the creation of an artificial island.

According to a statement from the Serang City Government on Friday (8/5/2026), Serang Mayor Budi Rustandi has taken action to lobby the central government and has held an audience with the North Java Coast Management Authority (BOPPJ).

It was conveyed that the meeting with BOPPJ discussed the potential development of coastal areas in three main regions, namely Banten, Margaluyu, and Sawah Luhur, as part of the economic development concept based on the northern coastal area.

“I want this Serang City concept to be included in their programme, so that the development can be funded by the centre and save on the regional budget,” said Budi Rustandi, as seen in the statement from the Serang City Government.

One of the regional developments is the construction of the North Ring Road. This infrastructure is designed as a strategic logistics route connecting the northern areas of Serang City to the airport.

The existence of this road access is believed to be able to accelerate industrial growth, smooth logistics distribution, and open up new investment opportunities in the coastal areas that have not been optimally developed so far.

Not only road construction, the grand concept offered also includes coastal disaster mitigation and improving the community’s economy.

The Serang City Government also proposed the construction of a wave-breaking wall to address beach abrasion, as well as the development of an artificial island in the northern coastal area.

This artificial island is projected to become a new tourism area that can drive growth in the creative economy sector, services, and the creation of new job opportunities for the people of Serang City.

According to Budi Rustandi, the arrangement of this coastal area becomes a long-term solution to suppress unemployment rates while improving the welfare of residents.

In addition, the Serang City Government also brought a major target in the form of building a port in the northern coastal area. This project has been included in the Serang City Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD).

This port is projected to become a new source of regional original revenue (PAD) while strengthening Serang City’s economic position in the Banten region.
