LLDikti Region V Strengthens Commitment to Enhancing Lecturer Qualifications at Private Universities
The Higher Education Services Institute (LLDikti) Region V continues to promote quality improvement of human resources at private universities through strategic partnerships with the banking sector. This commitment was marked by the presentation of Cooperation Appreciation Certificates from the Head of LLDikti Region V to Bank BPD DIY and Bank BSI, followed by the distribution of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme grants for doctoral study programmes for lecturers at private universities within LLDikti Region V. Bank BPD provided a total of Rp 150 million and Bank BSI provided a total of Rp 150 million on 13 March 2026 at the LLDikti Region V office. This programme forms part of a joint effort to strengthen the academic qualifications of lecturers whilst raising the competitiveness of higher education in Yogyakarta Special Region.
This year, Bank BPD DIY and Bank BSI have provided assistance to five lecturers at private universities within LLDikti Region V based on administrative and interview selection stages. According to the Head of LLDikti Region V, this contribution is a positive step and marks the beginning of a larger effort. The CSR distribution to these lecturers was also witnessed by the Director of Human Resources, Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Sri Suning Kusumawardani.
In his remarks and guidance, the Head of LLDikti Region V expressed appreciation to Bank BPD DIY and Bank BSI for their commitment and support in helping private universities develop higher education human resources. He emphasised that strengthening lecturer qualifications remains a major joint endeavour. At the national level, the percentage of doctorate-qualified lecturers has only reached approximately 25 per cent. Meanwhile, Yogyakarta Special Region is in a relatively higher position at approximately 27 per cent, although this figure remains below the national target of 30 per cent.
The Head of LLDikti Region V also highlighted that when compared with the total number of lecturers in Yogyakarta Special Region, which reaches approximately 7,550 people, the proportion of doctorate-holding lecturers still needs to be continuously increased. For this reason, he hopes that all stakeholders can strengthen collaboration, both with the banking sector and local government. He cited examples that local government participation has begun to emerge, such as undergraduate scholarship support from the Sleman District Government. However, educational assistance for lecturers is still considered limited and needs to be expanded on an ongoing basis.
The doctoral study assistance programme for lecturers at private universities represents a concrete manifestation of synergy among LLDikti Region V, Bank BPD DIY, and Bank BSI in building stronger and more sustainable higher education. This collaboration is expected to inspire an increasing number of parties to participate in strengthening lecturer capacity, as investment in lecturers ultimately represents a long-term investment in the quality of universities and the future of the nation.
