LIXIL is once again hosting the LIXIL Architectural Design Competition (LADC) 2026 as part of its commitment to advancing Indonesia’s architecture and design industry. The competition — first held in 2019 — returns as a platform for architects and young talents to present innovative design ideas addressing future challenges.

This year, the LADC adopts the theme ‘ARCHIPELAGO DIALOGUES: Architecture as a Space of Co-Creation’, which foregrounds Indonesia’s archipelagic character with its cultural diversity, environments and perspectives as sources of design inspiration.

Arfindi Batubara, Marketing Director of LIXIL Water Technology Indonesia, said the competition seeks not only aesthetically high-value works but also ideas capable of delivering solutions to a range of societal challenges.

‘Indonesia is an archipelagic nation with thousands of identities. From small islands to large cities, rich natural and cultural resources, infrastructural differences, to specific challenges such as climate change or urbanisation pressures. We believe that from these contexts the most relevant ideas for the future will emerge,’ Arfindi said in a statement on Thursday (21 May).

He added that LADC is also expected to serve as a dialog space to broaden idea exploration and build new perspectives in creating living spaces that are better and more sustainable.

LADC 2026 features a line-up of international jurors from the architecture industry including Andra Matin (Founder of AndraMatin Studio), Gregorius Supie (Founder of Yolodi+Maria Architects), and Richard Wood (Managing Partner Asia at Snøhetta). In addition, winners may gain international experience through a Studio Exchange programme at the global architecture firm Snøhetta and participate in the LIXIL Architectural Trip to Nagoya, Japan.

This year’s competition is divided into two categories: Professional Category and Student Category. The professional category is open to members of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) who hold an active Architect Registration Certificate (STRA). The student category is open to architecture undergraduates and postgraduates, participants in the Architect Professional Education Programme (PPAr), and graduates with a Bachelor’s in Architecture who have graduated no more than two years prior to registration. Arfindi said the division is intended to give all talents an equal opportunity to demonstrate their creativity.

‘The split into two categories is expected to provide a more inclusive space for both experienced architects and students developing their creative potential,’ he added.

One of the LADC 2026 jurors, Gregorius Supie, hopes the competition will spur the emergence of increasingly innovative architectural ideas. ‘I hope this competition will ignite a more creative spirit in architecture and help advance Indonesia’s architectural industry,’ he said.

Registration and entry submission open from 18 May to 5 July 2026 online to facilitate participation from across Indonesia. All entries must be original and not previously published or submitted to other competitions.

The judging process will be conducted in two stages to determine the five best finalists and the overall winner. The culmination and announcement of the winner will take place as part of the LIXIL Day of Architecture & Design (LDAD) on 12 August 2026.

LIXIL continues to strengthen its role as a strategic partner for players in the architecture and design industry through cross-disciplinary collaborative initiatives.
