Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo has spoken out regarding the vandalism at the Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta, which is facing a child abuse case. Hasto urged the public not to take the law into their own hands and to leave the matter to the ongoing legal process.

“I haven’t seen it directly yet, but I’ve been informed about the vandalism. I can understand the parents’ emotions. Emotions are there, but we ask for patience,” Hasto said when met after attending an event in Yogyakarta on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

“Justice is being pursued as best as possible and upheld. So, entrust it to the authorities; there’s no need to judge for yourselves, as that could lead to new problems,” he added.

Hasto urged the public not to worry, as many parties are monitoring the case.

“Don’t take the law into your own hands; entrust it to law enforcement, and insyaallah, everyone will oversee it together. Don’t worry that it won’t meet expectations,” he stated.

“Also, don’t take the law into your own hands to avoid new problems. And we’ll secure it with the Civil Service Police Unit if there’s any damage,” Hasto concluded.

It was previously reported that the Little Aresha Daycare building was covered in graffiti containing abusive writings this morning. It is not yet known exactly when or who carried out the vandalism.

Observations by detikJogja at the location around 09:30 WIB showed graffiti on the northern side of the daycare building. Meanwhile, no graffiti was visible on the southern building. Police lines were still visible across the fence and gate of the daycare.

The graffiti was visible on nearly the entire house structure. It appeared on the front wall near the gate, the rolling door, the entrance door, and the front wall near the entrance.

The graffiti appeared to have been made using black spray paint. The smell of paint was still detectable from in front of the gate. However, no remnants of spray paint cans were seen at the location. The gate remained tightly closed.

The displayed graffiti mostly contained abusive writings. However, there were also other messages such as ‘Children Become Victims’ and ‘No Sense of Humanity’, which were quite large in size.

The atmosphere around the location seemed quiet, with houses on either side of the daycare appearing tightly closed without any resident activity. The road in front of the daycare still saw considerable vehicle traffic.

detikJogja attempted to gather information from nearby residents regarding the graffiti. However, no definite information was obtained about who did it or when it was made.

“Wow, I don’t know, sir; it seems like it wasn’t there at dawn earlier,” said a nearby resident who declined to be named when met by detikJogja on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
