Indonesia’s Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has urged national airlines operating international routes to Middle Eastern destinations or transiting the region to heighten vigilance in response to escalating conflict between Iran and Israel and its allies, the United States.

Dudy disclosed that several airline operators have reported being impacted by the conflict in the Middle East. Many international flights have been affected, with some cancelled, though certain services have not yet been impacted.

“We urge airlines to increase vigilance and passengers to actively monitor developments and information,” Dudy said in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Foreign airlines have reported cancelling flights and suspending operations from and to all cities in the Middle East since the escalation of conflict between Iran and Israel began. Airlines that have cancelled or suspended flights include Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Indigo Airlines, Sri Lanka Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Scoot.

Saudi Airlines continues to monitor select Middle Eastern destinations, Oman Air operates normally, and Ethiopian Airlines continues normal operations but has suspended flights to Amman (Jordan) and Tel Aviv (Israel).

The two domestic carriers transiting Middle Eastern airspace, Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air, are currently unaffected by the conflict. The minister stated that Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air flights to Jeddah remain unaffected, whilst Garuda Indonesia flights to Amsterdam have been rerouted through Cairo (Egypt).

“Flight safety and security remain our paramount priority,” Dudy emphasised.

The Transport Ministry maintains coordination with Airnav Indonesia, airlines, airport operators and foreign authorities to update security information on Middle Eastern airspace and ensure flights remain safe and efficient.

Several countries have closed airspace to all arrivals and departures, including both commercial and private flights. These countries include Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq and Syria.
