Tensions between Iran and the United States are increasingly spilling over into the technology sector. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that it will target US-origin technology companies in the Middle East region starting from 1 April.

In a statement in Persian disseminated via Telegram, the IRGC listed at least 18 companies as targets. The majority are major technology and industrial firms from the United States, such as Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta, Nvidia, and Palantir.

Additionally, one company from the United Arab Emirates, G42, is also included in the list.

The IRGC accuses US technology and artificial intelligence (AI) companies of playing a key role in supporting Washington’s military operations against Iran.

“American technology companies are a primary element in designing and tracking terrorist operations carried out against Iran,” the statement reads.

The threat is accompanied by a stern warning to workers. The IRGC urges employees of these companies to immediately leave their workplaces for safety reasons.

“We will target American technology companies for every killing in Iran,” they wrote.

This statement is not the first of its kind. Several weeks earlier, the Tasnim news agency released a list of around 30 technology facilities in the Middle East described as new targets.

These locations are spread across several strategic cities, including Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Tel Aviv in Israel.

The facilities on the list are generally related to the development of artificial intelligence technology or cloud computing management centres in the region.

In Tel Aviv, for example, offices of defence technology companies and development centres of global firms are mentioned as targets.

Attacks on technology infrastructure have already occurred. Two Amazon data centres in the United Arab Emirates were reportedly hit on 1 March. Another facility in Bahrain sustained damage from shrapnel from a nearby attack site.

The IRGC previously stated that the actions aimed to expose the role of these data centres in supporting opposing military and intelligence activities.

Furthermore, offices of companies such as Oracle, IBM, and Google in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Abu Dhabi are also cited as targets because they are suspected of providing infrastructure to military entities.
