Jakarta – Bank Indonesia noted that liquidity in the economy remained positively growing in April 2026. However, the growth rate of broad money, M2, slowed compared with the previous month. Executive Director of the Bank Indonesia Communications Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, said M2 grew by 9.2 percent year on year in April 2026. The figure was lower than March 2026’s growth of 9.7 percent. The total value of M2 in April 2026 reached Rp 10,253.7 trillion. “The liquidity of the economy or broad money (M2) grew positively in April 2026,” he said in a formal statement on Friday (22 May 2026). Quasi money also grew 4.7 percent in the same period. The development of M2 was influenced by two main factors: credit disbursement and net claims on the central government. Credit disbursement rose 9.4 percent year-on-year. That growth was higher than the previous month’s 8.9 percent. Meanwhile, net claims on the central government grew by 38.6 percent. Although still high, the growth slowed compared with March 2026’s 39.1 percent. Credit growth also indicates that the banking intermediation function remains active. M2 comprises currency in circulation, rupiah giro (demand deposits), electronic money, withdrawable savings, quasi money, and short-term securities with maturities up to one year. The combination of fiscal factors and credit suggests that the economy’s liquidity remains relatively ample. This condition provides room for economic activity but must be safeguarded to avoid fuelling inflationary pressures going forward.
