Lift at Bank Bali Tower
Lift at Bank Bali Tower
I am an employee of a company which rents a space in the Bank Bali Tower, Jl. Jend. Sudirman, South Jakarta. Since our office occupies the 15th floor of the building, like other employees working above the ground floor, I have to use the lift everyday.
Recently, PT Yacolt Graha, the company that manages Bank Bali Tower, issued a regulation which, in my opinion, is rather inhumane in nature. The regulation requires that, as of January 16, 1995, the office boys, couriers, and drivers should not use the lifts in the main lobby. They must use the service lifts under the pretext that they want to improve their services.
The question that flashes in my mind is: Are the above mentioned workers an obstruction to the company's efforts for improvement? I know that the lifts in the main lobby are often out of order, so that the lift services aren't very efficient. Why does the regulation affect those particular employees only?
It is wholly inappropriate for the Bank Bali Tower Management to enforce such a ruling, considering that this society has such an awareness of the human rights issue. It reflects a narrow- mindedness and feudalistic perception on the part of the management. Any effort to review the rule would be highly commendable.
