Lift at Bank Bali Tower<\/p>\n
I am an employee of a company which rents a space in the Bank
\nBali Tower, Jl. Jend. Sudirman, South Jakarta. Since our office
\noccupies the 15th floor of the building, like other employees
\nworking above the ground floor, I have to use the lift everyday.<\/p>\n
Recently, PT Yacolt Graha, the company that manages Bank Bali
\nTower, issued a regulation which, in my opinion, is rather
\ninhumane in nature. The regulation requires that, as of January
\n16, 1995, the office boys, couriers, and drivers should not use
\nthe lifts in the main lobby. They must use the service lifts
\nunder the pretext that they want to improve their services.<\/p>\n
The question that flashes in my mind is: Are the above
\nmentioned workers an obstruction to the company's efforts for
\nimprovement? I know that the lifts in the main lobby are often
\nout of order, so that the lift services aren't very efficient.
\nWhy does the regulation affect those particular employees only?<\/p>\n
It is wholly inappropriate for the Bank Bali Tower Management
\nto enforce such a ruling, considering that this society has such
\nan awareness of the human rights issue. It reflects a narrow-
\nmindedness and feudalistic perception on the part of the
\nmanagement. Any effort to review the rule would be highly
\ncommendable.<\/p>\n
