Lieutenant General TNI Agus Widodo Set to Become Deputy Head of BIN

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Director General of Defence Strategy at the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General (Letjen) TNI Agus Widodo, will receive a new assignment as the Deputy Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

“It is true, he will become the Deputy Head of BIN,” said the Head of the Defence Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, to Kompas.com on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

This job promotion is also marked by a rank increase for Agus, who now holds the three-star rank.

Meanwhile, the position of Director General of Defence Strategy at the Ministry of Defence, left by Letjen Agus, will be held by a two-star general.

Information on the rotation of the Director of Defence Strategy position at the Ministry of Defence was previously revealed by the Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin in a bilateral meeting with Japanese Defence Minister Koizumi Shinjiro and his delegation.

On that occasion, Sjafrie introduced his subordinates one by one who were present, including Major General TNI Bagus Suryadi Tayo, who was mentioned as the prospective Director General of Defence Strategy at the Ministry of Defence.
