LG expands TV production

JAKARTA (JP): PT LG Electronics Indonesia president In Ki Kim said on Monday that his company invested US$4 million this year to expand its television set and refrigerator production capacity.

Kim said the additional investment is part of a program to maintain the company's position in the domestic market and to expand its exports.

"LG Electronics Indonesia, which operates two plants in the country, are a major exporting subsidiary of LG Electronics," he said in the launching of the Flatron TV and Monitor Full Line-Up.

The two factories, he added, could contribute at least $600 million in export earnings next year.

"We also emphasize environmental management and have invested $1 million in obtaining the ISO 14001 environmental management certificate next year," he said.

PT LG Electronics Indonesia is wholly owned by LG Electronics of South Korea after its Indonesian partner, Astra International, recently sold its stakes in the company.

"The new Flatron TV is the first truly flat TV," Sung Khiun, the company's marketing manager said, adding the company expects total sales to amount to 20,000 next year.(06)
