Lengkong wins Japanese trade award
TOKYO (AFP): Japan's Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama awarded
this year's annual trade awards yesterday to five businessmen
including Rudy Lengkong, the chief of Indonesia's National
Agency for Export Development (NAFED).
Other four businessmen from the United States, France and
Japan.
Companies from the United States, France and Kenya were also
among the recipients of this year's corporate awards by the
Ministry of International Trade and Industry, otherwise dominated
by Japanese companies.
The American recipient of the prime minister's award was
Joseph Gorman, the 57-year-old chairman of TRW Inc., a leading
manufacturer of automotive parts in the United States.
Laurent Boix-Vives, the 68-year-old chairman of French sporting
goods group Rossignol, also won the award, along with Rudy
Lengkong, the 59-year-old chairman of Indonesia's National Agency
for Export Development.
The two other winners were IBM Japan Ltd. president Takeo
Shiina, 65, and Kazuo Harada, the 64-year-old president of
Yamamoto and Co. Ltd. who also chairs the Japan Machine Tool
Importers Association.
Foreign companies among the 13 recipients of the corporate
awards included: Chrysler Japan Sales Ltd. and Molex Japan Co.
Ltd., both of the United States. France's Rhone-Poulenc Japan
Ltd. also received the corporate award, along with Kenya Nut Co.
Ltd.
