Legislators must voice the truth
Legislators must voice the truth
From Republika
Rallies have been held recently at and around the House of
Representatives/People's Consultative Assembly compound. As a
layman, I only hope that these rallies do not disrupt the process
of representative democracy that we pursue.
I would like to suggest that the supporters of President
Abdurrahman Wahid convey their aspirations to House members from
the National Awakening Party's faction as they represent his
supporters in the House, and also that those demanding that he
step down should meet the legislators from the Reform faction or
other factions nurturing similar aspirations.
As for the House leaders, they must decide which of them will
meet the people's representatives wishing to convey their
aspirations. Care must be taken to ensure that a group of people
nurturing a particular aspiration will be received by legislators
having a different aspiration. Then let argumentation prevail
inside the House without any outside pressure.
Ralliers must convey their aspirations politely to show that
we are educated. Those failing to behave politely must be denied
entry.
As for the legislators, they must not be affected by any
outside pressure. They must speak what they think is the truth
for the sake of improving the life of the nation and the people.
