Legislator Urges Health Services for Ponpes Pati Sexual Abuse Victims
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Member of the DPR RI Commission IX Netty Prasetiyani has urged the government to provide health services for victims of sexual abuse at a pondok pesantren in Pati Regency, Central Java.
“Our primary focus must not stop at the legal process, but must ensure that victims receive comprehensive health services, both physical and mental, in a proper and sustainable manner,” said Netty in a media statement on Thursday (7/5/2026).
She also pressed the Ministry of Health to immediately ensure that health service facilities, particularly regional hospitals, provide free, proactive medical care that does not burden the victims, including physical examinations and visum that are important parts of the legal process.
“The medical process such as visum must not become an obstacle for victims. The state must ensure that access to these services is easy, quick, and victim-oriented,” she stated.
With the number of victims reaching dozens, she assessed this as an emergency situation requiring serious and sustained intervention.
“Trauma from sexual violence does not resolve in one or two sessions of support. There must be ongoing psychological services until the victims are truly recovered,” she said.
Netty also requested comprehensive reproductive health monitoring to ensure no long-term impacts on the victims’ physical condition.
“Victims must feel safe when coming to health facilities, rather than experiencing pressure or stigma. This is important to ensure they are brave enough to report and receive treatment,” she explained.
Netty reminded of the importance of the state being fully present in victim recovery, not only from the legal side, but also from the health side, which is the main foundation for long-term recovery.
“Victim recovery is the state’s responsibility. Victim-oriented health services are the key to enabling them to rise and continue their lives,” said Netty.
