Jakarta (ANTARA) - Rizki Faisal, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has asserted that eradicating narcotics is insufficient by merely arresting perpetrators; it is essential also to sever the flow of funds and the financial power behind drug networks.

“The war on narcotics is not enough by just arresting the perpetrators. The main strength of drug networks is not only the illicit goods but the flow of money and the financial power behind them,” said Rizki in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, as long as drug kingpins can still enjoy the proceeds of crime and their assets remain secure, the narcotics distribution network will continue to thrive and damage the nation’s generations.

“Today’s law enforcement must sever the money trail, dismantle money laundering crimes, and seize all assets from narcotics-related offences,” he stated.

He also appreciated the steps taken by the Indonesian National Police (Polri), which he deemed bold in targeting drug networks to their roots, including against internal elements involved.

According to Rizki, the courage to act without discrimination is an important part of Polri’s reform.

A strong Polri, said Rizki, is one that dares to take action against anyone, for the safety of the nation’s generations and Indonesia’s future.

“We must impoverish the kingpins, disrupt their networks, and ensure that the state does not lose to narcotics,” he remarked.
